If you're exploring Rocket Money and wondering what it costs, you've come to the right place. Rocket Money offers both a free version with essential features and a Premium subscription that uses a "pay what you think is fair" pricing model, typically ranging from $7 to $14 per month. But understanding what you get at each tier will help you decide which option makes sense for your financial goals.

Let's break down everything you need to know about Rocket Money's pricing structure and what features you'll get access to at each level.

Understanding Rocket Money's pricing model

Rocket Money takes a refreshingly different approach to pricing. Rather than charging a fixed monthly fee like most subscription services, the Premium version lets you choose what you pay based on what feels right for your budget. This "pay what you think is fair" model typically falls between $7 and $14 per month, though this range is subject to change.

Before committing to anything, you'll get a seven-day free trial of the Premium features. This gives you time to explore everything the app offers and decide whether the additional features are worth the investment for your specific situation.

Bill negotiation: available to everyone

One of Rocket Money's standout features is bill negotiation, and the good news is that it's available to everyone, even those without Premium. Our team of expert negotiators will contact your service providers (think phone companies, cable providers, and internet services) to negotiate lower rates on your behalf.

The pricing model for this service is performance-based. You only pay if the negotiation is successful, and when it is, you'll pay between 35% and 60% of the first year's savings. After that first year, you keep 100% of the savings for as long as the lower rate remains in effect.

This means there's no downside to trying. If our negotiators can't get you a better deal, you pay nothing for that particular negotiation attempt.

What's included in the free version

The free version of Rocket Money gives you a solid starting point for understanding your finances.

At its core, you'll get subscription management that tracks all your recurring subscriptions in one place. The app automatically detects and monitors these charges, making it easy to see exactly where your money goes each month. However, if you want our team to actually cancel those subscriptions for you, you'll need to upgrade to Premium.

You'll also get upcoming bill tracking to ensure you never miss a payment. Rocket Money detects your bills and displays them on a timeline, helping you plan your cash flow and avoid late fees. Combined with transaction history going back more than three months, you can start spotting patterns and understanding your spending habits over time.

For budgeting, free users get net income tracking that provides a monthly snapshot of total spending, income, and what's left over, which is essential information for anyone trying to live within their means. You can also set a total budget and limited category budgets for income, bills, utilities, and general spending, plus add up to two custom category budgets. All your transactions are automatically organized into general categories, giving you basic awareness of where your money goes.

Finally, everyone gets access to the Learning tab, which provides videos, articles, stories, and quizzes to help build your financial literacy. We believe financial education shouldn't be locked behind a paywall.

Why Premium unlocks the full Rocket Money experience

While the free version helps you understand your finances, Premium is where Rocket Money becomes a true financial command center.

We'll cancel subscriptions for you

Free users can track all their subscriptions in one place, which is a great start. But Premium members get something even better: we can cancel many unwanted subscriptions for you. No phone calls, no hunting for the cancel button buried five menus deep, just money back in your pocket. Note that it usually takes the team 2-10 days to cancel a subscription for members.

Complete transaction control

Premium unlocks a powerful set of tools that transform how you manage and understand your spending. You can create unlimited custom categories beyond the defaults, perfect if your spending doesn't fit neatly into standard buckets or if you want more granular tracking for the things that matter to you.

Transaction rules allow Premium members to automate how transactions are categorized, tagged, or ignored based on custom logic that you define. You can set it once and let Rocket Money handle the rest. If you've ever looked at your transaction history and seen a wall of vague "VENMO" or "PAYPAL" charges with no context, you know the frustration. With transaction rules, you can teach Rocket Money what those charges actually mean. Maybe that $75 Venmo payment every Tuesday is your share of the babysitter, or that weird merchant name that shows up as "SQ *COFFEECO" is actually your favorite local café. Create a rule once, and every future matching transaction gets automatically renamed, recategorized, or tagged exactly how you want it.

Need to break down a single purchase? Transaction splits let Premium members divide any transaction into multiple parts. This is incredibly useful for big box store trips where you might buy groceries, household items, and clothing all at once, or for splitting a restaurant bill across different budget categories.

You can also add notes to any transaction (helpful for remembering context months later), create manual transactions for cash purchases or accounts you prefer not to link, and export filtered transaction lists to CSV files for further analysis or tax preparation.

Powerful budgeting and financial tracking

Unlimited custom budgets remove the two-category limit of the free tier, letting you create as many category-specific budgets as you need to truly control spending across every area of your life.

For Premium members, Net worth tracking shows the sum of all your accounts, including manually tracked balances for things like jewelry, collectibles, or other assets. This gives you a complete picture of your financial health, tracking both assets and liabilities over time so you can watch your wealth grow.

As a Premium member, you can set up Financial Goals to automate your savings journey directly through the Rocket Money app. Choose between two flexible savings methods: Smart Savings autopilot or Custom Savings with full control.

With Smart Savings autopilot, Rocket Money analyzes your checking account balance and spending patterns to automatically transfer small amounts every 1-3 business days, building your emergency fund, vacation savings, or down payment without you lifting a finger. It's like having a personal savings assistant that knows exactly when you can afford to save.

If you prefer to have more control, Custom Savings lets you set specific deposit amounts and frequencies to match your savings timeline. Whether you're saving $1,000 for a summer trip or building long-term wealth, you decide how much and how often to save.

Premium also provides full credit report access that goes beyond the basic score, giving you a detailed report card that helps you understand exactly what's affecting your credit and how to improve it. And account balance alerts send you updates on your current balances, helping you stay aware of your financial position without constantly checking the app.

Convenience features that make managing money easier

The customizable dashboard lets you show, hide, and reorder items to create an interface tailored to your priorities, putting what matters most front and center. On-demand account syncing provides up-to-date financial information at the press of a button, rather than waiting for automatic syncs.

Account sharing creates a second login so you can share financial visibility with a partner, spouse, or financial advisor, so that managing money together finally feels easier. Premium users also get the iOS widget that displays spending and account details right on your iPhone's home screen, plus web access through a desktop browser for those times when you want a larger screen.

Is Premium worth it?

For most people serious about their financial health, Premium pays for itself quickly. Consider this: if you have just two or three unused subscriptions that our team cancels for you, you've likely already covered the cost of Premium for several months. Add in the time saved from automated transaction rules, the insights from net worth tracking, and the effortless savings from Financial Goals, and Premium becomes an investment that delivers real returns.

Premium is especially valuable if you have multiple subscriptions you want help canceling, prefer detailed control over transaction categorization, want to automate your savings journey, need to track spending across specific projects or trips, value a complete picture of your net worth, or want full credit report access to improve your score.
